Close to 100 english words in under 3 months is really super...just like our Teeny Little Super Guy.
Lately we have re-discovered the word power of classic Sesame Street character's like Teeny Little Super Guy...for our teeny little super guy.The white board doesn't quite capture everything he knows.
Samuel generally talks non-stop. It is hard to capture exactly what he knows but I try to write down words on the white board each time he uses them correctly (not just parroting). Yes, in that first column it says "Mama fart" and yes he can say this phrase perfectly clear...and loud... as he laughs. He is a "real" boy!His english is very functional and he can execute most commands. No need to dumb down the english anymore as he totally understands what I ask, but speaking his needs, or wants, is less clear.
He really loves his big sister. He does everything she does which includes making the same errors and omissions in his speech. He does NOT have the same structural defect (short soft palate from her cleft palate surgery). There is no reason for the nasality, ommissions of p, b, v, S, th and d, other than this is what he hears when he talks to her and so he learns from his trusted teacher.
We are now starting family "fun" speech path drills for both of them, but our tiny little super guy gets really quiet when it is his turn. He doesn't like the spotlight or pressure. The loudest boy in the universe will whisper if you ask him to repeat what we are working on...or he will repeat what we are not working on. If I ask for him to speak louder he parrots back "LOUDER" not the word, or he will tell me "no talking; quiet". These are things he hears from me often because when he is relaxed he is very loud and demanding.
He does have a super sweet side though...
Teeny little super guy can fly around on his plasma car and "save MaMa" by tossing the wash into the dryer "all by-self"! He loves to do things "all by-self". He is definitely MaMa's super - duper laundry helper.
(Now if we can only keep this good skill until he is in his teens, then life will be super easy for MaMa! HaHa!)
He sure is a cute little super guy! Sounds like he is doing amazing! I am really struggling with Silas' speech, after almost a year. He seems to be at a stand still, and isn't willing to try to improve at this stage.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait until I see him ride that plasma car. Maybe on the weekend March 2 or 3rd if you are around, might be coming to the city. He looks like he is doing amazing!
